The Module Guides show the Indicative Reading for each module and your lecturers will discuss relevant textbooks with you. Some books may be described as essential, others as useful. Where a book is described as essential, your lecturer will expect you to have a copy available. Other books will be recommended to help you with your studies and it is your decision as to whether or not you purchase your own copy. The University LRC is well stocked and you should make use of it but if you need to use a particular book regularly there is no substitute, in terms of convenience, to having your own copy. Waterstones in The Bentall Centre, Kingston, keeps a stock of most recommended books.
Consult with your Field Leader to find out what type of calculator is required for your course (if any). Generally a standard approved calculator would be the Casio FX-83/85 (with or without suffix) although postgraduates may require an advanced calculator for their studies (such as Casio FX115MS, FX570ES or FX991ES).
Any student wishing to record lectures should ensure they are familiar with the University policy on audio recording which can be found on Student Space under the Academic Regulations Section.
